NIGHTQUEEN
Ongoing series of digital photographs documenting nightfall at Hummel Park in Omaha, NE.
Hummel Park in Omaha, NE is a wooded site close to the Missouri river hidden at the city’s northern limits. Wilder and less accessible than most city parks, myths of cannibalism, witchcraft, and cults—urban legends that unmask middle America’s deeply entrenched anxieties around difference, queerness, and the other—have persisted for generations. Nightqueen embraces Judith Jack Halberstam’s assertion that “The queer artist works with rather than against failure and inhabits the darkness” to investigate the visual material and natural processes which stoke fears enriched by urban myth-making.
